Community / support / How to sort files in S3Drive

Hi, Can anyone advise how to sort files in the folder? The default is sorted by name. When I choose Sort by Last Modified, it shows The folder is empty, with a prompt to 'Drag & drop or use + to add files here.' Additionally, the progress spinner keeps running.

Sorting is available only in cached/offline mode since S3 protocol doesn't provide any custom sorting options. S3Drive shall prompt you to build a local cache first, there shall be a progress indicator (spinner) if this indexing process runs. Depending on the number of your files it may take couple seconds to couple minutes. Before that's done you may see empty/incomplete data in some locations/folders. Please let me know if that helps.

Local cache is pulling full files or just metadata about the files?

Just metadata, size, name, folder etc.

Hi Tom, Thanks for your advice. I did wait a long time for the progress indicator to run. However, it was not completed even I waited for 15 mins. There are only 30 small excel files in the folder.

Can you please let me know what's your S3 provider, does your bucket have S3 versioning enabled? What's your platform/OS? We would then try to reproduce/investigate this issue.

My OS is Windows 11 Pro. I did know our S3 provider . My company provided me the link to install it . Is it possible to check if S3 versoning enabled in the App settings? I have just started to use it today. You mentioned Sorting is available only in cached/offline mode . How can I set my account offline? (edited)

Yes, please go to the Profile settings (not the App settings), then check if: Versioning is enabled. If it isn't, please enable it, S3Drive will perform check if Versioning is supported on the bucket level and either enable the setting or tell you that Versioning isn't available asking you if you want to enable it anyway. If it's not available, then don't enable it forcefully. This would tell us if Versioning is enabled/supported on your bucket level. Setting in the Profile settings (in the app) needs to reflect the settings set on the bucket level.

Have you been configuring S3 details yourself (e.g. endpoint, bucket name etc.)? Please check the example setup screen: https://docs.s3drive.app/setup/bucket/#android-setup-screen If you could let me know or PM me the endpoint I would then be able deduct what's the S3 provider and verify S3Drive compatibility. In order for sort/search function to work, S3Drive does require recursive query support, whilst most provider do support it, it maybe the case that your provider doesn't support it well enough.
